UW biology center gets 3D model maker

The University of Wisconsin-Madison says it has bought a new copy machine for $57,000.

The Z-Corp Three-Dimensional Printer has a better "enlarge" feature than the typical office copier: It makes three-dimensional models of small structures such as cells, DNA double helixes and the Anthrax virus.

Using white polymer powder and colored inks, the printer builds models up to 10 inches tall one layer at a time. Z-Corp is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts.
