Solinus updates MailFoundry anti-spam hardware, switching to Linux

Green Bay, Wis. — Solinus Inc. has updated its MailFoundry line of anti-spam hardware, releasing a faster, cheaper appliance that runs Linux on OEM hardware instead of using a Sun platform, the company said.

The MailFoundry 2100 is about three times as fast as the MailFoundry 1100, according to sales executive Daniel Jones, though exact processor speeds are not yet available. And the cost, at $2,000, is $500 less.

In addition to the hardware, Solinus provides subscription-based updates every five minutes to its spam-blocking profiles, based on its staff's observation of current spam trends.

The recently released MailFoundry 4100, at $3,500, has a similar feature set but a larger capacity – it's intended for up to 25,000 users, according to company figures, compared to up to 5,000 users for the 2100.
