Charter and Time Warner to partner on fiber optics

Madison, Wis. - Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications announced Monday that two of their departments would partner to provide businesses in their service areas with fiber-optic connections. The units - Time Warner Cable Business Class Services and Charter Business - will collaborate to install fiber-optic connections, providing area businesses with high-speed Optical Ethernet service.

The partnership will allow Time Warner and Charter Communications to integrate their Ethernet services and provide customers with an efficient long-distance carrier for their data communications, the companies reported. The companies will provide their customers with connections to their combined fiber-optic network, allowing customers to access other Time Warner-Charter Communications customers across Wisconsin.

"While customers could obtain fiber optic network services from us if they were connecting points located within the southestern Wisconsin area, they were still generally limited to the use of mainstream telco providers if their needs extended beyond our service footprint," said Dan Conrad, VP for Business Services at Time Warner Cable in Milwaukee.

Besides the extended network coverage, the partnership will provide other benefits, they said; Time Warner-Charter Communications fiber optics connections allow for customers to increase their bandwidth at a moment's notice, and for customers to steer clear of outages, since they are generally separate from telephone company lines.

Charter needs to get on the ball for residential. Verizon FIOS is already being installed across the country. Even there cable is sadly lacking. Of there claimed 3000 down/ 256 up, I am getting 1400 down and 126 up. SAD. Even Adelphia offers an upgrade to 4000 up/ 1000up for only $10./ mo. Get with it Charter.

After failing to bring a dvr twice to my house, I have had one more schedule attempt with Charter Cable. They called at 8:30 in the morning, saying they were on their way. Ten hours later, I called charter and they said he didnt have the dvr in his truck, so he canceled the call... without notifying me.

I have nver had a moment's trouble with my service from Charter. I have phone, Internet, and television. When I had DirecTV, I lost service if there was a storm somewhere in the stratosphere. If you really hate Charter so much, you should look into getting a satelite. I can tell you from first- hand experience that the Dish/DirecTV sucks much more than Charter ever will!! You need to get a grip and understand that every company is in business to make money. Charter is no different!!!

Charter is the worst. Where is the competition? We live on the ocean, where the wind blows 40 mph(all the time), so satellite is out of the question.

My Charter net has been absolutely awful for around 8 months with techs in and out of the house, without ever actually fixing the issue....if there was a rating system for their ability to fix issues from 1-10, they would get a -5. That is being rather kind.
