New facility giving API needed room to grow

Hartford, Wis. - A new 75,000-square-foot facility in the Dodge Industrial Park here is providing needed growing room for an expanding healthcare technology company.

The company, API Inc., built the facility on 28 acres in the industrial park to replace two offices that were in separate locations in Hartford. It moved into the new space in April. The new building gives the company, formerly known as Automated Peripherals Inc., more than twice the space available in its two previous offices, and provides room for expansion.

Launched by Luis Garcia in 1982, the company now has 270 employees. The new facility, at 1550 Innovation Way, has room for 500. API has added more than 40 employees since the current building's construction was announced early last year, and continues to hire. Its growth was recognized earlier this summer when it was named one of Waukesha County's Top 10 small businesses in a program coordinated by the Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce.

The company focuses on the healthcare industry, developing software that handles payroll, human resources, time and attendance, employee scheduling, and facility security. More than 400 API clients nationwide use its products - including API itself, which had its access control software incorporated into the new building's infrastructure, noted Samantha Hagen, marketing manager for API.

The company showed off the new building to more than 250 clients - representing more than 100 businesses -- at a Monday night reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by Werner Wolpert, executive director of the Hartford Area Development Corp.

Wolpert lauded the development and praised the business "as monumental evidence that technology businesses can succeed in the United States."
