Former NSF director to speak at UW-Madison

Madison, Wis. -- Rita Colwell, former director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), will speak on "Water Pollution and Human Health" at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in a free public lecture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Memorial Union.

Colwell headed the NSF from 1998-2004. She now chairs Canon US Life Sciences, Inc., and is a distinguished professor at the University of Maryland and at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Colwell's appearance here is the first of six Roy F. Weston Global Distinguished Sustainability Lectures planned at UW-Madison through next spring. Weston, an alumnus of UW-Madison, is the founder of Weston Solutions, Inc., an international environmental and redevelopment firm.
