Johnson Controls sales up, profits down

Milwaukee, Wis. — Johnson Controls reported net income of $165 million for the quarter ending on December 31, down slightly from the $168 million it made in the same period a year ago.

That was despite earnings growth bolstered by quarterly sales of $7.5 billion, up from $6.6 billion a year ago, partly from acquisitions of York International and Delphi's battery business.

Reuters reported that Johnson Controls' movements away from the beleaguered auto industry are paying off in some analysts' eyes. The company is one of a few auto suppliers in the U.S. that has remained profitable, but it is looking toward other markets such as building interiors, where its presence was increased through the York acquisition.
