Johnson Controls makes wireless partnership

Milwaukee, Wis. — Johnson Controls has signed an agreement to add technology from Spotwave Wireless to its wireless portfolio.

The SpotCell in-building wireless systems broaden coverage and improve signal strength in specific areas of a facility. This allows people to use their cell phones, PDAs, 3G-enabled devices, and mobile enterprise applications indoors without thick walls blocking the signal. It covers areas from 25,000 to 100,000 square feet.

Johnson Controls is targeting health-care organizations with an expanded wireless product line. On January 30 it said it was acquiring a minority stake in Emergin, a company in Boca Raton, Florida, that makes wireless products for health care.

SpotWave is located in Ottawa, Ontario. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
