NameProtect releases annual list of top trademarkers

Madison, Wis. — The trademark industry enjoyed another year of impressive growth, according to the 2005 annual edition of the Trademark Insider, a quarterly publication on the trademark industry published by Madison-based NameProtect, a provider of trademark research and online brand monitoring services.

The report provides the business and legal communities with insight into overall trademark filing activity, a ranking of leading trademark law firms and companies, and an analysis of overall industry trends. In 2005, filing numbers topped the quarter million mark for the first time since 1999 and 2000, with 262,102 trademark filings logged over the course of the year. The 2005 data brings to 10 the number of consecutive quarters of quarter-over-quarter growth, and indicates that 2005 was the third straight year of notable gains in overall annual filings.

Trademark Insider also named the recipients in its fourth annual awards program; awards are given to the top 25 U.S. trademark law firms and individual attorneys. This year's list of award recipients includes some veterans along with some new faces. Greenberg Traurig remains the number one national law firm for the second year in a row, with Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, DLA Piper Rudnick, Merchant & Gould, and Cowan Liebowitz & Latman rounding out the top five national law firms.

Scott J. Fields of National IP Rights Center heads up the top five individual attorney award recipients, followed by Lawrence E. Abelman of Abelman Frayne & Schwab, Joan L. Long of Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw, Richard L. Morris, Jr. of 4TradeMark.com, and Robert A. Rosenbloum of Greenberg Traurig.

NameProtect will honor the award recipients at a May reception.
