Merge launches Spanish version of imaging tool

Milwaukee, Wis. - Merge eMed, a Merge Healthcare company producing imaging software and services, has announced the release of eFilm Spanish, a Spanish language version of the company's eFilm Workstation.

Released in October 2005, Workstation is a downloadable radiology software application that allows the viewing, manipulation, and CD burning of digital medical images. This functionality is designed to assist radiologists and healthcare providers transition from film to filmless workflow environments.

The Spanish version includes enhanced thumbnail views, spine labeling, splitting image series and improved support for CD and DVD burning with a localized Spanish interface.

Robert White, president of Merge eMed, said this new version will help proliferate the Workstation, already one of the most widely used diagnostic desktop applications.

The introduction of the product follows a string of financial woes for Merge Healthcare, which is currently working to file its annual report for fiscal year 2005 before the Aug. 29 deadline set by the NASDAQ Stock Market. Failure to meet the deadline could lead to the company's delisting from the NASDAQ. The difficulty is compounded by a lawsuit filed by shareholders claiming the company issued false statements in its 2005 purchase of Cedara Software, which Merge acquired for $325 million. Following the allegations, three top executives resigned.
