Sony promises video editing on more platforms

Madison, Wis. - Watching vacation highlights or memorable events on tape can be difficult because personal videos frequently skirt the line between the nauseating and the soporific.

However, new video editing equipment hitting the market next month could make the experience a little easier to swallow. With new transitions and effects in the hands of the right user, a video of a birthday party could be made into an entertaining avant-garde film or music video.

The new software from Sony promises to make it easier for consumers to create videos for viewing on DVD, the Apple iPod, or the PlayStation Portable. With certain camcorders, an amateur video artist could even edit multiple audio channels to create a surround sound movie project.

The software, Vegas Movie Studio DVD Platinum Edition, allows users to add customized menus and special features with training and support tutorials. It includes all the features found in the prior version, including HD video support and advanced color correction tools. It also includes extras like a new collection of effects and transitions, and 1,001 Special FX.

Dave Chaimson, vice president of marketing for Sony Media Software, said the $130 package is designed to give users more creative freedom with their video projects.

"Sites such as YouTube, Yahoo!, and Google have made video creation more popular than ever before," he said, "and [this software] is the perfect tool for anybody who would like to join the growing community of content creators."
