Merge eMed releases software upgrade

West Allis, Wis. - It's only an upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1, but it may just mark the first small victory in a company's comeback story.

Merge eMed, part of the Merge Healthcare family of companies, has announced the release of its upgraded Fusion RIS (Radiology Information System), an integrated business and clinical workflow product used by hospital-based and freestanding radiology imaging facilities.

Merge eMed, which focuses on radiology departments and specialty practices, said the upgrades from version 3.0 were designed with Health Insurance Privacy and Portability Act (HIPPA) compliance in mind, and with feedback from customers.

The technology integrates a variety of clinic operating functions, including scheduling, patient registration, and document management. According to the company, the improvements bring accelerated workflow productivity with new features like a call center scheduler and faster access to patient records and images.

Merge Healthcare, which develops medical imaging and information management software, recently avoided delisting on the NASDAQ Stock Market. NASDAQ's decision not to delist Merge followed months of negative news about inaccurate financial reporting and shareholder lawsuits that led to the resignation of five top executives.
