Wisconsin companies reach deal on electronic health records

Milwaukee, Wis. - Two southeastern Wisconsin medical informatics companies have reached an agreement to offer image-enabled personal health records.

The agreement between TeraMedica Healthcare Technology of Milwaukee and eCare Solutions, Inc. of Germantown will merge technology products with the goal of giving health providers and patients access to images and other patient information.

TeraMedica, a privately owned company that provides electronic medical records to health providers, will combine its Evercore image and information product with eCare's Personal Health Desktop, which customizes individual information with health and risk resolution guidelines.

With the combined products, patients and physicians will be able to view medical images such as X-rays, MRI scans, and cardiology exams, plus other content from a patient's existing personal health record.

Gavin Quinnies, president of eCare Solutions, said in a release that the partnership "brings the challenge of centralizing each consumer's images into their own personal health record one step closer to reality."

TeraMedica CEO Jim Prekop emphasized security features. He said eCare has developed a private and secure storage space where personal health data can be safely stored and readily available.

TeraMedica offers software products that collect digital medical images from different healthcare systems and manages them in what it calls a "single patient snapshot."

eCare Solutions, established in 1998, is a business-to-business provider of health management and predictive modeling products that measure health risk exposure.
