Madison, Wis. - For his work in micro technology, a University of Wisconsin-Madison professor will receive the first Pioneers of Miniaturization Prize.

David Beebe, a professor in the UW-Madison Department of Biomedical Engineering, will receive the award at the 10th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and the Life Sciences. The award was established by the Lab on a Chip Journal and Corning, Inc.

Beebe is involved in the development and application of micro technology to address problems in biology and medicine.

His projects, which have produced a number of patents, include work on disposable, non-electric drug delivery patches for large-molecule therapeutics, and the development of micro-fluidic cell biology tools used in the study of cancer, developmental biology, and stem cells.
