Midwest offers non-stop flight to North Carolina research park

Milwaukee, Wis. - As part of a new strategic plan featuring enhancements to 25 routes and six new destinations, Midwest Airlines has announced the launch of nonstop Midwest Connect service between Milwaukee and Raleigh/Durham, N.C., the airport that serves Research Triangle Park, beginning June 1.

The airline, which has been fending off a hostile takeover bid by AirTran Holdings, noted that Raleigh/Durham is a frequently requested destination of business travelers because of its proximity to state government, leading educational institutions, and high-tech industries. Raleigh/Durham fares will start as low as $99 each way from Milwaukee.

Wisconsin companies are establishing closer ties to Research Park Triangle. This week, GenTel Biosciences said it would open a facility in the park in conjunction with its acquisition of protein chip technology from GlaxoSmithKline.

The park is located between Duke University in Durham, North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In addition to the nonstop service to Raleigh/Durham, Midwest Airlines announced that it will fly larger aircraft and add seasonal frequency in three Midwest Connect markets, including Milwaukee-Baltimore/Washington, beginning June 1.
