Merge unveils updated medical imaging software

West Allis, Wis. - Merge Healthcare, a provider of medical imaging products, has released new radiology workstation software designed to overcome challenges posed by the fusing of two large data sets.

Merge, which has released several product upgrades this year as it attempts to recover from past financial reporting improprieties, said the new product accommodates standard image reading methods obtained by PET (positron emission and tomography) and CT (computed tomography), but it maximizes digital reading with easy-to-use controls and streamlined reporting.

As such, its brand promise is twofold. With this product, Chrysti Bowers, director of clinical solutions for Merge Healthcare, said healthcare specialists can view physiological activity in conjunction with anatomical location. This is a clinical advantage that can be undermined by the challenges posed by fusing the large PET and CT data sets.

Healthcare providers in radiology, nuclear medicine, and oncology therefore must be confident that technology will optimize clinical effectiveness and workflow efficiency, and Bowers said the new workstation delivers on both fronts.
