Biomedical engineering conference invites manufacturers

Madison, Wis. - If manufacturers are interested in new products and markets in the biomedical device field, there is a conference that provides a learning and technology transfer opportunity.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Biomedical Engineering Center already puts on an annual design event at the end of each spring semester, but this year it has expanded the program with the intention of opening doors to business and industry. Those doors will be opened on Friday, May 4 at the annual BME Translational Research and Design Conference and Expo.

A major theme of the conference will be translational research, which in the biomedical engineering field is the convergence of clinical problems and engineering expertise to produce new biomedical devices.

Participating businesses will have an opportunity to see the new products being designed at the Biomedical Engineering Center by faculty and students in collaboration with clinicians at UW Hospital and the UW Medical School. The also will have a chance to hear from a successful biomedical device entrepreneur, learn how to get their company involved with student projects, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
