Bruce Maas named CIO at UW-Milwaukee

Milwaukee, Wis. - The interim tag has been removed for Bruce Mass following his appointment as chief information officer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Rita Hartung Cheng, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, announced the appointment following a national search.

Maas has undergraduate majors in accounting and management information systems from UWM. He has served as campus budget manager, assistant dean for business affairs for the School of Education, the School of Social Welfare, and the College of Health Sciences, and as a deputy CIO.

In addition, he was the project manager for the PeopleSoft student administration implementation. As interim CIO, he led a campus wide IT Review and prioritized resources for staff training, information security, web development, e-mail and calendaring, and network support.

Hartung Cheng said in a release that Maas and the university's technologists would have an important role in its growth plans. “As we anticipate expansion of UWM's physical presence by adding multiple campuses, the critical role of technology in facilitating research, learning, and business processes, and in fostering a sense of academic community, becomes ever more apparent,” she said.

In a prepared statement, Maas said he looks forward to the technology related partnerships and collaboration that lie ahead for UWM. "We will build on the strong parternships we have established to create opportunities to better support our missions of access and research growth," he said.
