Chemical-petroleum executive joins Virent Energy board

Madison, Wis. - Dr. Jay Kouba, a 25-year veteran of the chemical and petroleum industries, has joined the board of directors of Virent Energy Systems.

Virent, which recently entered into an agreement with Shell Hydrogen, a subsidiary of Shell Oil Co., is developing technologies that allow the renewable replacement of fossil fuels.

Kouba is the president and CEO of Metabolix, Inc., a publicly traded Massachusetts bioscience company. He has served with companies like Innovene, Inc. and BP Petrochemicals.
