Lucigen receives $250K research grant

Middleton, Wis. - Lucigen Corp. has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to fund the development of new methods of analyzing membrane proteins.

Lucigen, which develops gene cloning and protein expression technologies, expects the new methods to allow much faster analysis of membrane proteins and speed development of more effective drugs.

The company said membrane proteins are important targets in developing drugs for a range of human diseases, but difficulties in cloning and preparing membrane proteins have slowed research into how they function in normal and diseased cells.
