Marshfield Clinic completes rollout of tablet PCs

Marshfield, Wis. - Marshfield Clinic has completed the rollout of tablet computers to its healthcare providers, according to a report in Healthcare IT News.

The completion of the 3-year rollout, the foundation of the clinic's electronic medical records system, paves the way for a chartless medical environment in clinics operated by the private medical practice. The transition to a chartless environment should be completed in November of 2007.

Marshfield Clinic, one of the largest private multi-specialty group practices in the United States, has 766 physicians in 40 facilities located in northern and north-central Wisconsin. Healthcare providers now track patient records and images, enter dictations, and order prescriptions with the help of Fujitsu's Lifebook T4000 and Stylistic ST5000 tablet PCs.

The clinic estimates that it saves $4.50 in every case where pulling paper charts is avoided; with mobile tablets, it no longer needs to invest in fixed workstations, the report said.
