Cambridge Major acquires Netherlands pharma company

Germantown, Wis. - Cambridge Major Laboratories of Germantown has acquired ChemShop B.V. of Weert Netherlands, a European supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) development services.

According to Cambridge Major, a chemistry outsourcing partner to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, the combined company is one of the largest pharmaceutical chemistry development organizations in the western hemisphere. It will employ more than 140 employees at three sites in the United States and Europe.

ChemShop will adopt the name Cambridge Major Laboratories Europe, but its management and personnel will continue to operate in the Weert facility. Cambridge Major said it will invest several million dollars to expand the European site to include more reactor capacity, laboratories, and expansion of API manufacturing capabilities.

The planned expansion will begin immediately and be completed in the second half of 2008.
