UW-Milwaukee passes fund-raising target

Milwaukee, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has exceeded its goal of raising $100 million in funds from private sources, attracting a total of $122 million during a campaign designed to boost the university's research efforts.

The fund-raising effort, called the Campaign for UWM, officially began in January 2006 and will continue through the end of the year.

It is supported by an additional donation for the acquisition of property. Philanthropist Michael Cudahy announced that he will provide funds to help UWM acquire land at the Milwaukee County Grounds in Wauwatosa to build a new College of Engineering and Applied Science building. The new satellite campus will be known as the Michael J. Cudahy Innovation Park.

The $122 milliion represents one-third of an effort to boost UWM support by $300 million over the next six to eight years. The other two-thirds of the equation include $100 million from increased grant money for UWM's research activities, and $100 million from a renewed state investment in the university.
