UW enters licensing agreement with Enable IPC

Madison, Wis. - Enable IPC Corp., a Valencia, Calif. company that is using advances in thin films and nanotechnology to develop power devices, has announced the completion of a final license agreement with the University of Wisconsin-Madison to secure ultracapacitor technology for the useful life of the patent, according to a report in Nanotechnology Now.

This license formalizes a relationship that began with a license option agreement that gave Enable IPC the option to license the ultracapacitor technology, for consumer applications only, after an evaluation period.

Ultracapacitors are used for a range of power applications. Although more expensive than batteries, ultracapacitors are considered an environmentally friendly alternative to batteries because they can extract greater efficiency from existing power sources and address several societal goals, including energy conservation and enhanced performance and portability of consumer devices. They also are free of battery limitations such as limited life cycle and cold intolerance.

The final license grants Enable IPC the exclusive right to develop, make, sub-license, and sell products based on the ultracapacitor technology, and it expands the fields of use to include all industrial applications.
