State biotech association relocates to University Research Park

Madison, Wis. - The Wisconsin Biotechnology and Medical Device Association has moved its headquarters to University Research Park in Madison.

The association, which represents the state's bioscience industry, said the move is the result of ongoing growth in the industry and association membership. The organization's membership had grown from 46 companies in 2001 to 225 by the end of 2007, and the number of purchasing-consortium companies with which it has negotiated special deals and pricing for member companies, which saved them more than $2 million in 2007, now stands at 15.

“As Wisconsin's bioscience industry continues to grow, its member association is growing with it,” Jim Leonhart, executive vice president of the WBMDA, said in a press release. “The WBMDA's move to our new quarters in the heart of a vibrant bioscience cluster is the latest step forward in that growth.”

The association has held monthly meetings at the research park, which is home to more than 100 companies that employ more than 4,000 people. A second research park campus is being planned west of the existing campus.
