Madison stem cell company named one of the nation's best biotechs

Madison, Wis. - Madison's Cellular Dynamics, co-founded by stem cell research pioneer Dr. James Thomson, was named as one of the nation's top 15 biotechnology companies by FierceBiotech, an online news source for the biotech industry.

In naming Cellular Dynamics as one of the top biotechs, FierceBiotech notes that the company is unique in the stem cell industry in that it already has a product that can be marketed for drug discovery.

“(The company) is offering a smart way for (drug) developers to get an early, more accurate look at the safety and effectiveness of their drug candidates. One of its technologies specializes in assessing the potential cardiac risks presented by a new drug program.”

FierceBiotech also noted that Cellular Dynamics is supported by top stem cell scientists, including Thomson, who was the first to isolate and grow human embryonic stem cells. Also involved with the company are UW-Madison stem cell scientists, Craig January and Tim Kamp.

FierceBiotech covers the biotech industry with a special focus on drug discovery and clinical trials. It annually recognizes 15 of the biotech industry's most promising companies on the leading edge of drug development.
