TrafficCast extends Yahoo partnership to provide data for 100 markets

Madison, Wis. — TrafficCast International announced on Wednesday that its role in providing travel-speed data for Yahoo Maps has been extended to 100 markets in the United States from 30 based on new traffic-modeling technology.

This extends a five-year relationship between the two firms. Previously, TrafficCast says, its was only practical to calculate traffic speed data in 30 areas that have traditional road sensor technology. The firm now has patented technology that uses historic traffic patterns, real-time incidents, construction, GPS data, road sensors and weather to predict traffic flow. This is translated into red, yellow and green overlays on a street map.
