Voter registration system interfaces working

Madison, Wis. — A computer system that interfaces Wisconsin voter data with death, felony and driver's license records is now working, bringing Wisconsin into compliance with federal law, according to the state's Elections Division.

"We have jumped another hurdle as we prepare for an important fall election cycle," said Kevin Kennedy, director of the Government Accountability Board, in a press release.

The system allows election officials to verify the accuracy of records in the Statewide Voter Registration System by cross-checking them with other state databases.

In December, 2007, the state terminated a contract with Accenture after wrangling with the firm, saying it had delivered an application that was insufficient and could not even check to see if a voter was a felon or dead. As part of the ensuing settlement, Accenture agreed to deliver the source code to the state and perform certain repairs.
