PKWARE Licenses Technology to Expand SecureZIP Standard

Brown Deere, Wis. - PKWARE, a software developer based in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, has announced a set of software licensing initiatives designed to expand the availability of the company’s new SecureZIP technology.

Responding to industry feedback PKWARE decided to license its SecureZIP technology to other vendors including WinZip, which will incorporate the technology into an upcoming Beta release of their product.

“The incorporation of SecureZIP technology by ZIP vendors such as WinZip, the expanded PKZIP Reader availability, and our implementation of SecureZIP on all major platforms are important elements of our strategy to make enterprise-class data security
easy,” said Tim Kennedy, president and chief operating officer of PKWARE.

PKWARE’s Reader products, including a recent version that features
SecureZIP decryption, have experienced more than 150 million downloads since inception. The latest version of PKZIP Reader features additional international support through French and German language versions for European SecureZIP customers

“With PKWARE's Reader and SecureZIP licensing strategy, PKWARE is breaking down this barrier, enabling SecureZIP to emerge as a de facto standard for exchanging
information securely across various infrastructures and organizations,” said Charles Kolodgy, research director at IDC.

PKZIP Reader is freely available from PKWARE’s Web site by any recipient of a encrypted ZIP file. Third-party Web sites can now also host a branded PKZIP Reader download button on their site via a new PKZIP Reader Affiliate Program.
