Bradley Foundation to fund up to $500K in UWM catalyst grants

Milwaukee, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Research Foundation announced today that the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation would fund up to $500,000 in new catalyst grants in 2009.

The catalyst grant program provides seed funding for commercially promising research projects at UWM. The Research Foundation will recommend new grants for funding to the Bradley Foundation this summer.

Since its inception, the catalyst grant program has funded 10 projects totaling $670,000 with support from the Bradley Foundation and Rockwell Automation.

Support from the Bradley Foundation allowed the Research Foundation to fund seven catalyst grants totaling $500,000 in 2008. The 2008 grants are supporting active patent applications and new collaborative ventures with area business.

“We were very impressed with the quality of the projects,” Michael W. Grebe, president and CEO of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, said in a release. “We hope this research can serve as a driving force for Milwaukee's economic growth.” Research projects are selected based on their scientific excellence as judged by outside experts, and they are based on their potential for creating university-corporate partnerships, intellectual property, and start-up companies.
