Obama scraps President's Bioethics Council after forcing embryonic tax-funding

[PRESS RELEASE]
Editor's Note: This is a press release and WTN is politically neutral and strives to present opposing views.

The President's Council on Bioethics is no more. With a one-day notice, the members were told in a letter from the President that their services were no longer required. Pack up, get out. Forget the fact that they had a couple of interesting reports coming out soon, one more meeting, and that the Council's tenure would expire come this September.

Peter Lawler, member of the now-defunct Council, notes that he is reassured when the letter states that "President Obama recognizes the value of having a commission composed of experts on bioethical issues to provide objective and non-ideological advice to his Administration."

WTN News should be severly castigated for putting this into what should be a politically neutral reporing of news, or make it very clear that this is a political opinion piece, rather than a mere press release. The name of the sponsoring organization alone should have given WTN News pause.

WTN News should have recognized the blatant right-wing, pro-life slant of the linked article, some of which is presented above, disqualifies this as a press release - it should have been presented as a column, where the clear editorial bias would have been appropriate. Otherwise, WTN News should have found a more neutral source, or made clear that politically neutral science organizations have repeatedly criticized the current panel for having a blatant ideological agenda that was not scientifically supportable and pushed an ethical stance that was far to the right. See for example:
http://www.ucsusa.org/scientific_integrity/abuses_of_science/presidents-council-on.html and
http://www.fas.org/blog/ssp/2009/06/new-bioethics-council-to-advise-the-white-house.php .

Personal note - since the current bioethics panel was almost entirely nominated by the preceeding president to match his ideologically narrow ethics, and panelists who did not fit this were forced off the panel, is there any surprise President Obama wants to start over? Why wasn't that every mentioned in this sad excuse for a "press release".
