Heart patients benefit from digital image network

Hartland, Wis. -- The Congenital Heart Institute at Miami Children’s Hospital and Arnold Palmer Hospital are now utilizing VERICIS Cardiovascular Information System. VERCIS, developed by Milwaukee-based Camtronics Medical Systems, streamlines echo images and is designed to improve patient care.

VERCIS acquires and stores imaging studies generated in each hospital’s echocardiography labs, giving physicians network access to cardio data for review and diagnosis. The VERICIS systems at each hospital are connected by a high-speed digital communication link which facilitates study sharing and remote consultations.

According to Leo Lopez, medical director of the pediatric echocardiology laboratories at Miami Children’s Hospital and Arnold Palmer Hospital, being able to share information quickly represents an advance in the delivery of care.

“The fact that I can now view a study done more than 250 miles away, 10 seconds after it’s captured, is astounding,” Lopez said.

Camtronics offers image management and reporting solutions for pediatric echocardiography. VERICIS features an array of analytical tools specifically designed for assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with congenital heart disease. Miami Children’s Hospital is the only licensed specialty hospital for children in south Florida. The journal of the American Hospital Association, Hospital and Health Networks, named MCH one of the nation’s “Most Improved and Most Wired Hospitals” in its 2003 report.

Located in Orlando, Arnold Palmer Hospital includes a regional center for neonatal care, maternal intensive care, pediatric intensive care, pediatric cardiology and hematology/oncology services.
