Millions available to tech companies in ATP competition

MADISON — Approximately $60.7 million is available for technology companies as part of a competition sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Advanced Technology Program. All U.S.-owned, for-profit companies are eligible for an award, and proposals in all technology areas may be submitted.

“The awards from this program are a primary source of R&D capital for visionary, high-technology businesses that will have an impact across several industrial and social sectors,” said Cory Nettles, secretary of the Department of Commerce.

The awards are distributed based on competitive peer review and the proposals’ scientific and technical merit. In addition, awards focus on companies’ potential for broad-based economic benefits, the need for ATP funding and evidence of a clear commercialization pathway and broad diffusion. The ATP supports projects that industry cannot fully fund on its own because of significant technical risks. The deadline for proposal submission is April 14.
