UW Milwaukee and AT&T team up for Project ReDirectory

A new directory means that there is now an old directory. Last year, residents recycling phone books through the city’s curbside program helped Milwaukee to save thousands of dollars. This year, the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) will play an active role in phone book recycling during their Campus Sustainability Day on October 21, which takes place during the distribution of the new 2009 Milwaukee AT&T Real Yellow Pages directory. Campus Sustainability Day is part of a national effort to spread sustainability awareness in college and university campuses across the country.

Project ReDirectory, sponsored by the AT&T Real Yellow Pages, UWM and the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW), aims to increase awareness of the recyclability of phone books by holding a collection event on the UWM campus south of the Zelazo Center from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21. This event takes place during the distribution of the Milwaukee AT&T Real Yellow Pages directory.

More than 50 students and volunteers wearing Project ReDirectory t-shirts will collect outdated phone books from UWM campus offices throughout the day. Those within the university as well as residents from surrounding neighborhoods are invited to participate by dropping off their outdated directories during this one-day event.
