Portable technology causing trouble in courtrooms

Jury duty is a time-honored tradition and trial by an impartial jury is a constitutional right, but today's technology raises challenges in the courtroom.

The role of the juror is so sacrosanct. The law prohibits the media from identifying them without their permission, but in this age of social media, judges across the country are struggling with jurors who are outing themselves and the cases they're hearing.

Judges once fretted over notions like reasonable doubt, burden of proof and the presumption of innocence. Today, they are worried about Facebook.
