Merge to utilize Esker’s technology to automate delivery of radiology reports

MADISON - Merge eFilm, a provider of radiology information systems, has announced it will use Esker’s DeliveryWare Platform in its Fusion RIS system to automate faxing of radiologists’ reports, eliminating the need to print out and manually fax them. The system will send reports to referring physicians and other designated recipients as soon as they are signed off.

"Our clients are able to reduce their report turnaround time by 50 percent," said Christy Boehm, Merge eFilm director of product marketing.

The heavy demand for radiologists, who read and interpret X-rays and other medical data, is putting pressure on their time, the company said. That leaves radiology offices and their service providers looking for ways to improve workflow. Milwaukee based Merge eFilm reviewed three automated-delivery products, and selected DeliveryWare in part because it automates the whole process of document distribution.

Esker, which is based in Lyon, France, but has its U.S. headquarters in Madison, produced the system to work automatically without custom programming.

"Esker DeliveryWare is meant for integration with packaged applications like Fusion RIS," said Mitch Baxter, Esker's executive vice president of business development.

In addition to faxing, the system can deliver documents as PDFs, through secure e-mail, the Web or wireless messaging.
